Putting recorded audio into
your computer if you have a tape recorder or no USB port with your digital
recorder.
Step 1
Grab your tape recorder or your digital recorder.
I have my digital recorder with USB, though I'm showing you this way just
for an example.
Step 2
Grab your patch cord. These could be bought from
places like Best Buy.
Step 3
Connect your patch cord into the headphone jack of your recorder and plug
the other end into the mic jack of your computer.
Step 4
Open up a program to record audio, I use Adobe Audition 1.5 which is one
of the best and a free trial can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com
Step 5
Click on "File", "New", and follow the settings in
this picture. They should be the default settings so leave them and press
ok.
Step 6
Click the record button and press play on your recorder.
Step 7
Once the whole thing has recorded hit stop on the recorder and the program.
Goto "File", "Save as", make sure the file type is
set to mp3 or mp3 pro. Put in a name and press ok.
Copying into computer via USB - Digital Recorder
Step 1
Plug in the USB cable that should come with your recorder or the end of
the USB part of your recorder if it's like that into your computer.
Step 2
If you have windows XP, it should pop up a box that will have your recordings
in it. If not go into "My Computer" and it should have an extra
drive there. Double click it to go into it.
Step 3
You will see your recordings. They will most likely be in .wav or .mp3
format. Mine come in .zvr format and they need to be converted into .wav
or .mp3 which only takes a few seconds. Highlight what recordings you
want, copy them and paste them into a folder on your desktop or somewhere
you will remember where they are.
Using SoundSoap -
Making sure SoundSoap is working in audition
In Audition click on "Effects". Then click on "Refresh
Effect" list. This should popup a little box saying it will refresh
blah blah, so click on ok. After it does that it should say its done so
click ok.
Using SoundSoap
Make sure your evp or part of the audio is open. Double click "Direct
X" under the effects menu on the left hand side of the screen. Then
double click on Bias SoundSoap.
In the box that pops up click on preserve voice. This will put a green
outline around it. Also click on preview and then click learn noise. It
will learn the noise in the file and get rid of it. You can tweak some
settings if you like. This program is amazing and is all you probably
really need to use though a few more things will be coming in this guide
later.
Once the green outline has gone from the learn noise button you can press
ok. Then just save your file and that's it.
